Tourism In Kaohsiung


Shinkuchan Commercial District
With the convenient location in the heart of Kaohsiung City near the KRT Central Park Station, Shinkuchan Commercial District has allured numerous merchants to set business here. Today, visitors may find dozens of fashion boutiques, jewelries, cosmetics, beauty salons, coffee shops, restaurants, peddlers, and ultramodern cinemas for their Kaohsiung travel.

During the Japanese Colonial period in 1931, the building was transformed into an Ocean observatory. The building underwent two major destructions in its lifetime so far, including a serious bombing by the American Air Force during World War 2, and the powerful Thelma Typhoon in 1977. It was later renovated in 1986 while being classified as Class two Historic site by the Kaohsiung City Government and ordered the Bureau of Cultural Affairs to administer the maintenance and operation of the British Consulate Building till today.




Other than food stalls with local Taiwanese delicacies, different varieties of food such as Japanese’s hot and spicy fish roe, Salty and crispy mushroom, bacon cheese potato melt and Mongolian barbecue will also be found here, and certainly became one of the major selling point for Rueifong Night Market. One other thing that separates Rueifong Night Market to the rest of the night markets around the country is its different layout, rather than spreading out along the streets stretching down the road, Rueifong was formed in a large rectangle in the size of a large city block containing over 500 stalls in total.






Love River
Flowing through Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan, the Love River is a twelve-kilometer long river that features beautiful river sceneries and coffee shops along the riverbanks. With great efforts of eliminating pollutions and smells, the river has restored its beauty thus become a popular Kaohsiung tourist spot. Due to the picturesque sceneries and romantic ambience of Love River, various coffee shops and restaurants are established along the riverside for the enjoyments of all visitors. Visitors may sit back and enjoy a cup of coffee while appreciating the delightful sceneries at this area.





                      


Kaohsiung’s Pier 2 Art Center is located within the third ship trench in Kaohsiung harbor, built in 1973, originally a general purpose harbor warehouse. In 2000, this space full of experimental possibilities was discovered when authority was looking for a space to set up firecrackers for the Independence Day celebration. The hub of outdoor and indoor art warehouse and museums was then established at the wharf which is now called the “Yencheng Passenger Wharf”.

It is a peaceful place with a murmuring stream during the day, while in the evening it is coated with splendid lights, soft music, and artistic ambience when the lights are on. There are also a number of outdoor cafes with chairs set up on the front section offering scheduled live musical performances, making it a wonderful hangout venue for both locals and international oversea visitors.
                                                                               



Sizihwan Bay
The most famous feature of Sizih Bayis its swimming beach. In the summer, the swimming beach is full of activities where sunbathers and volleyball players saturate the area. The beach is also known for its glistening blue water, gorgeous sunset, and natural coral reefs. As the coconut trees shuffle in the light ocean breeze and the white beach sand tickle the toes of beach-lovers, a tropical paradise is created at Sizih Bay. When the night approaches, the sunset appears. The sunset at Sizih Bay is acknowledged as one of the eight famous scenes of Kaohsiung. The beautiful glow of sunset extends into the water and sky where couples may enjoy romantic walks accompanied by the soothing sounds of the thrashing waves.






Cijin is the first port of Kaohsiung, originally connected to Taiwan until 1967, when Kaohsiung Harbor had its establishment of second harbor making Cijin an offshore islet today. A cross harbor tunnel in between Cijin and Taiwan island was built in 1984 to provide convenience in transportation, also leading Cijin in becoming a popular Kaohsiung tourist stop for fresh seafood, rich cultural and historical sites, as well as beautiful sand bay for one to experience a romantic Kaohsiung travel.
                                                                                Heart of Love River(Ruyi Lake)
As a world famous destination of Kaohsiung, the Heart of Love River is also a new landmark in Kaohsiung. It is also the terminal of the love boat travelling route. It is an artificial lake, which is divided into two parts: East and West. It is an ideal place for you to find a variety of plants and plankton. Also, the river is very close to the most prosperous downtown street, which is a good place for visitors to experience local culture. You can enjoy the natural beauty as well as the colorful city life, especially in the romantic night.
